National Powwow is proud to host one of the country’s most exceptional craft contests. Past entries have included hand-crafted cradle boards, fully beaded horse tack, and beautiful dance regalia. Any registered participant of NPW XV is eligible to participate in the craft contest, and all entries but those in the “professional” category are eligible to receive the esteemed “Les Bircher Memorial” Award.

Lance Harris of Baton Rouge, LA, served as the NPWXV Craft Exhibition/Contest coordinator. Lance is the Director of Curatorial Services, Louisiana Secretary of State Museum Division, and has extensive experience in procurement and preservation of historic artifacts. A talented & skilled craftsman himself, Lance is a student of American Indian art and history, and brings with him a deep appreciation of how exceptional craftsmanship reflects the beauty and complexity of American Indian culture.
